1.12.2 forge isnt loading properly

help my 1.12.2 forge wont load properly. i am running version 14.23.5.2816 and when i press play in the minecraft launcher either nothing happens or the game launches with a black screen or crashes instantly. different forge versions work (such as my 1.7.10 forge that i installed a while ago) but forge for 1.12.2 isnt working. am i installing it wrong or is there something wrong with my minecraft?

edit: this is the first forge thing I have installed in three years so im probably doing something wrong

another edit: I just tried launching the latest version (1.14) and it launched but the loading bar gets stuck at almost full but then stops and is now not responding. im not sure what this is caused by. also in case your wondering, this is the error code when it crashes  -805306369
