Hello ppl,

this is my first time on the forum, and i made an account because i hav a problem. I am trying to make a forge server for me and my friends to play on which has mods, but when i downloaded the installer and installed the client and the server files to a folder on the desktop of my computer (just like what many yt tutorials told me to), The jar files that im supposed to run to get the eula and a bunch of other shinanigans doesnt show up when i double click the file even tho i opened it with what i think is the proper java software. Now looking back at the video tutorials I noticed that the guy in the video had downloaded an executable jar file when mine is just a plain jar file, I have no idea how it works, and i am in desperate need of help. The server version im trying to download is 1.12.2, and if you wise geek out there who is willing to help me with this needs any more information i will provide them instantly as, you know, this is a personal crisis right here. so please help.

CMD and Batch are the best ways by far,

however if you NEED to be able to double click on jar files to run them make sure you have Java installed in the first place and try this: https://johann.loefflmann.net/en/software/jarfix/index.html

This is my Forum Signature, I am currently attempting to transform it into a small guide for fixing easier issues using spoiler blocks to keep things tidy.

As the most common issue I feel I should put this outside the main bulk:

The only official source for Forge is https://files.minecraftforge.net, and the only site I trust for getting mods is CurseForge.

If you use any site other than these, please take a look at the StopModReposts project and install their browser extension, I would also advise running a virus scan.

For players asking for assistance with Forge please expand the spoiler below and read the appropriate section(s) in its/their entirety.
