I've tried other versions of Tough as Nails but it keeps crashing.

Bring this up with the mod author.it's a problem on their end if it isn't working. Or it is a problem with some mod compatibility.

Check your TAN config files. Most likely it's referring to a modded item or block that you're not loading or you have a typo somewhere.

I had the same problem. I went into config and deleted the tough as nail file then it started working
