Game keeps crashing rendering overlay

My game keeps crashing trying to render the overlay. I have tried with and without optifine,and it works fine without it but I'd like to have it installed anyway. I have no texture packs enabled, and I'm using Forge 1.14.4 28.2.3

Optifine's website, the download page, there's a changelog link next to every version download, and the changelog will tell you which version of forge that version of optifine will work with.
