Forge says no launcher

Just got minecraft for my laptop from microsoft and I am trying to download and install Forge. It says "The directory is missing a launcher profile. Please run the minecraft launcher first. c:\Users\Kayle\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft  This is not where microsoft downloaded the game to and they gave me no option to change where they put the game. My game is in ...AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe  But when I change the location for java it still tells me there is no minecraft installtion.

    Looks like you got the wrong version of minecraft.

    You do not want the one from the Microsoft Windows 10 Store thingy (Bedrock Edition) if you want to mod.

    You want the  Java Edition from www.minecraft.net
