Cannot use OptiFine with Forge since about 1.12

I have been using OptiFine with forge with pretty much all of the Modpacks i have played, but since 1.12 (or 1.13, i can't recall) Forge installations just don't recognise Optifine as a mod at all or just crash.

 

I have tried both just pasting the .jar file in the mods folder and extracting the MOD file and doing the same, nothing works. My latest attempts were for 1.15 (forge-31.1.27, preview_OptiFine_1.15.2_HD_U_G1_pre13) and 1.14 (forge-28.2.4, OptiFine_1.14.4_HD_U_F5).

 

I would really like to use my Minimap and Optifine at the same time again.

Make sure to read the Optifine changelog for versions you will be using to see what versions of forge they work with.

 

Optifine is very picky about which version of forge it works with, and each Optifine version usually is for a specific forge version, as mentioned in the Optifine Changelog.
