Hello!

I'm actually doing a Sorting Hat like in Harry Potter, it puts you in a random house.

I want to store his house as a string on the player object. What is the best way to do this?

I would also like to store others things like money, quests in progress, unlocked hats, player rank, etc... Is it a good idea to use capabilities for all of that with a large player base? Wouldn't this get laggy?

Capability is normally a better option,ย you can even store all those values in a single capability.

Wouldn't it be better to make a plugin that handles this with Redis cache and a MariaDB database?

Unless your mod is meant for a server with a large amountย (say more thanย 500) of players, using capabilities is far superior than using a database.

At a scale of normal modded Minecraft (which is normally less than 100 players), storing data on disk and retrieving it is way less impactful than setting up an entire database.

Moreover, capabilities allows cross-mod integration, which is often times important if you want to use other mods.
