Ah, I see. Get the world from the player, get the block state from the world using the position, then use the state's block for the comparison.

I'm eager to learn and am prone to mistakes. Don't hesitate to tell me how I can improve.

In your case you might be looking for BlockState#getBlock, and compare that with an instance of Block (i.e. Blocks.DIRT).
