But what is ITextComponent?

public void sendMessage(ITextComponent component) {
}

It is an empty method, I don't know how to use it. ITextComponent is an interface

Please take a look at the type hierarchy of ITextComponent, every IDE has it. As for the method being empty, I'm pretty sure you're looking at the method in Entity instead of PlayerEntity.

It's sad how much time mods spend saying "x is no longer supported on this forum. Please update to a modern version of Minecraft to receive support".

public class MyItem extends Item {

    public MyItem() {
        super(new Properties().group(ItemGroup.MATERIALS));
    }

    public ActionResult<ItemStack> onItemRightClick(World worldIn, PlayerEntity playerIn, Hand handIn) {
        playerIn.sendMessage();
        if (this.isFood()) {
            ItemStack itemstack = playerIn.getHeldItem(handIn);
            if (playerIn.canEat(this.getFood().canEatWhenFull())) {
                playerIn.setActiveHand(handIn);
                return ActionResult.resultConsume(itemstack);
            } else {
                return ActionResult.resultFail(itemstack);
            }
        } else {
            return ActionResult.resultPass(playerIn.getHeldItem(handIn));
        }
    }

}

I override the onItemRightClick method in my item class

...How is that relevant to what I said...?

As I said take a look at the TYPE HIERARCHY of ITextComponent to understand the sendMessage method.

Edit: Just looked at the first post, you literally just have to rearange the words in TextComponentString.
