Hello! I recently got a new laptop so I was downloading minecraft, java, and forge all over again. On my previous computer, forge is fine and I have no problems with it but on this computer it keeps crashing while loading forge-1.15.2-31.2.47 and forge-1.16.4-35.1.15 (the versions i'd ideally like to play)

The game crashed whilst initializing game
Error: java.lang.IllegalStateException: GLFW error before init: [0x10008]Cocoa: Failed to find service port for display
Exit Code: 255

It never gets past the early loading process

The strange thing is is that forge-1.12.2-14.23.5.2854 and forge-1.15-29.0.4 work just fine, but they aren't compatible with the mods i'm wishing to use so I really wish there is a fix

to this problem :) thank you so much!!!

This is a known issue that we're unable to fix.

It's up to Apple to add backwards compatibility to the APIs they changed with the M1 Macs, or up to GLFW, LWJGL, and Mojang to update their respective products or shipped libraries.

This is my Forum Signature, I am currently attempting to transform it into a small guide for fixing easier issues using spoiler blocks to keep things tidy.

As the most common issue I feel I should put this outside the main bulk:

The only official source for Forge is https://files.minecraftforge.net, and the only site I trust for getting mods is CurseForge.

If you use any site other than these, please take a look at the StopModReposts project and install their browser extension, I would also advise running a virus scan.

For players asking for assistance with Forge please expand the spoiler below and read the appropriate section(s) in its/their entirety.

oh bummer- so basically nothing to do about it but use the versions that do work

also what's the difference between the files that work and the ones that crash? are they newer?

I don't know the difference, I've only looked into it enough to see the error is coming out of GLFW itself when it tries to use an API that is evidently missing in M1 macs according to a support thread I found.
