    Probably through the use of PlayerEvent$PlayerLoggedInEvent and checking some boolean you added to the player via capability or stored as a WSD to check if the user has joined the world previously.

    This is Apple removing an old graphics API without giving the community time to update to the new API. It's been fixed but Mojang hasn't updated older MC versions to use the fixed version of the library, they plan to use the updated version for 1.17 though.
