Greetings from a noob. 

 

I have successfully downloaded the newest version of Forge!  However, when I attempt to open the launcher: install_profile.json nothing happens.

 

I have downloaded Java SM Binary and manually assigned it to the launcher but nothing happens when I click the launcher.  I can only select notepad and other programs not used for this file type.  I have Java installed but can't seem to select it as an option.

 

Ever since I switched to Windows 8 stuff like this has been so difficult.

 

I have run previous versions of Forge and Minecraft successfully but can't seem to get it to work with the newest update.

 

Any advice would be helpful.

 

p.s. I'm going to the beach on Sunday so I may be slow to respond.

Update. 

 

Now when I try to open the installer I get an error message that pops up very quickly.  When I took a screen shot of the error it says:  Error:  Could not find or load main class c:.... install_profile.json

 

Should it be a .json?  I see people referring to a .jar file.

 

Hmm.  Sorry this is all very strange.

 

I just want quick craft this is so difficult lol.

Why the hell are you extracting the installer?

The installer is a executable jar...

You're trying to run.. a json file... I don't even.....

Everything opened up in WinRAR by default.  Guess that was my problem.

 

Not sure why Windows decided to do that.

Never heard of a .json file before sorry dude.

 

My skills don't like in the area of opening files.

 

 

Same problem. Runs fine on my mac, but laptop only opens it in winrar.
