Hi,

maybe a very easy question, but I just couldn't find a direct documentation of which java Versions are officially Supported by Forge.

However I have seen from issues and other posts that apparently versions 8-15 are supported, however 16 is not.

Is this correct?

Is there an official documentation of this?

Regards,

FatalMerlin

In general you should use the version that comes with the Minecraft launcher, as that is what Forge will use as the main target.

But you are correct, currently 8-15 are supported. With 1.17 this will change to require Java 16 (this is a change from vanilla Minecraft).

Many thanks @diesieben07! Is this or could this be documented somewhere? Forge Docs (Requirements) or GitHub readme.md?

The official documentation, IS minecraft itself.
Forge only ever officially supports the version of Java that Minecraft was built for.
Any other version of java may or may not work. There is no guaranteed.
Forge 1.16 DOES work on 8->17. But you have to do some extra things for 16+ And thus is not supported.

I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated.
