How to make it so a mob cannot be attacked by the player?

My goal is to make it so whenever a player attacks while looking at this mob, the mob will not get in the way and the attack will go to the mob behind it. I messed around with raytracing but I wasn't able to figure anything out. I am on forge 1.8.9.

1.8 is no longer supported on this forum.
Please update to a modern version of Minecraft to receive support.
