When I download forge the file is in a block note instead of in java and can't install it, any help?

You have set the default app for .jar files to the editor
right click the file -> open with -> choose another app -> select the Java(TM) Platform SE binary -> and set the box "Use always this app to open .jar files"

Note: i'm not sure if the translations are 100% correct

Now the icon is the java one, but it won't open, it just makes a flash and then close

Which Forge and Java version do you have?

I have the latest version of forge for 1.17.1 (37.0.32) and java 8 (301)

You are using JDK 8 which only works on Minecraft/Forge 1.16 or lower.
Try to install JDK 16 and make sure the path of the version installated is running, just execute "java --version" command on windows terminal and you have to see the current version.

Then try install Forge again

This doesn't actually work.

Some zip managers like to take control of the .jar file extension away from Java.
Make sure you have Java installed and try running Jarfix once, then try the installer again.

Now it all works well, thank you for your support ❤️

its the javaw.exe (in C:\Program Files\Java\jdk-16.0.1\bin\javaw.exe)
and in windows the javaw.exe is called Java (TM) Platform SE binary
