How to save data between sessions

So I'm working on a mod and would like to know how to save a string that can be saved between sessions. I need to access this string in the main class every time the mod is run. Can I do this just with a text document or is there a forge method I can use?

you can use a config or a Capability

Are those client side or server side because I'm making a client side only mod

server and client, but you should use a config in your case it would be the better option
