cant install forge on latest version of ubuntu

i get this error when i try use the java installer for forge 1.12.2 on the latest version of ubuntu and idk how to fix 

when i check the box to run as a executable nothing happens and the installer does not do anything

1.12 is no longer supported on this forum.
Please update to a modern version of Minecraft to receive support.
