Some tips for somebody who wants to make a mod?

So I want to make a mod for minecraft 1.18. The Idea I have is to add the machines and weapons from Generation Zero to minecraft. I downloaded and installed blockbench and mcreator. Right now I am wondering how animating the machines would work. Do I have to make all separate models for each moving part or can I use the built in animator from blockbench?
