So I have the line:

public static EnumToolMaterial AmethystToolMaterial;

Eclipse is telling me the semi colon is incorrect.

The line before it: public static Item ItemAmethystPickaxe;

does not have this problem.

I'm going to do a wild guess and say that you have an error with

{ } 's

As you're not saying what error it lists, I can't be more specific than guessing at the error.

As you aren't showing code I can only guess as to the reason for the previously guessed error.

Well I fixed that but I caused another problem.

public static ItemAmethystPickaxe = new ItemAmethystPickaxe(Item.Ids.ITEMAMETHYSTPICKAXE_ID, AmethystToolMaterial);

The bold text is an error: Syntax Error: Variable declaratorid expected after this token.

Im not sure how to fix this

You don't have an identifier for that field

your code:

public static ItemAmethystPickaxe = ...

ItemAmethystPickaxe is the type, I can tell that by the constructor you're invoking. You need a name for the field too. Like maybe amethystPickaxe, or whatever you want.

edit: that's extremely basic Java by the way. Either it was a typo and you forgot about the identifier (it happens) or you should take a break from modding and grab an introductory book about the Java programming language

Er, I'm not really good at this, so what exactly do I do? I sent you the code by the way.

basically what you need to do is make up a name for that field and put it just after the type

public static ItemAmethystPickaxe [b]amethystPickaxe[/b] = ... //the rest here stays the same

the word in bold is an identifier. Everything in your code needs one, otherwise how else would you refer to that piece of code again if it doesn't have a name. But suggest you to drop modding for just a few days and read as much as you can about java. Then when you grab the basics, start modding again. It will be a lot less confusing.

Ok I fixed the problem BUT I have the semi colon problem again.

public static EnumToolMaterial AmethystToolMaterial = EnumHelper.addToolMaterial("AmethystToolMaterial", 2, 500, 6.0F, 6, 10);

    AmethystPickaxe = new AmethystPickaxe(503, AmethystToolMaterial);

At the end of the first line the semicolon is an error, I am not sure why but I know it doesnt have to do with { }'s

EVERYTHING IS FIXED

It turns out it was a problem with the { }'s I added them and now it is fixed! :D

Good!

But here's some advise, or rather THE advise because this is the BEST advise anyone could give you:

    • The problem occurs also in 1.20.1 Forge, but with an "Error executing task on client" instead. I have "Sinytra Connector" installed. On 1.21.5 Fabric, there is no problem. When this happens, the chat message before the death screen appears gets sent, with an extra dash added.
    • Well, as usual, it was user error. Naming mismatch in sounds.json.  Please delete this post if you find it necessary.
    • Hello Forge community.  I'm running into an issue with a mod I'm working on.  To preface, I can call /playsound modId:name music @a and I can hear the sound I registered being played in game. Great!  However, I cannot get it to trigger via my mod code.    Registration: public static final RegistryObject<SoundEvent> A_WORLD_OF_MADNESS = SOUND_EVENTS.register("a_world_of_madness", () -> new SoundEvent(new ResourceLocation("tetheredsouls", "a_world_of_madness")));   Playback: Minecraft mc = Minecraft.getInstance(); if (!(mc.player instanceof LocalPlayer) || mc.level == null) return; LocalPlayer player = (LocalPlayer) mc.player; BlockPos pos = player.blockPosition(); SoundEvent track = ModSounds.A_WORLD_OF_MADNESS.get(); System.out.println(track); System.out.println(pos); System.out.println(player); // play exactly like the tutorial: client-only, at the player's position try { mc.level.playLocalSound( player.getX(), player.getY(), player.getZ(), track, SoundSource.MUSIC, // Or MASTER if needed 1f, 1f, false ); System.out.println("[DEBUG] playSound success: " + track.getLocation()); } catch (Exception e) { System.err.println("[ERROR] Failed to play sound: " + track.getLocation()); e.printStackTrace(); } Sounds.json:   { "theme_of_laura": { "category": "music", "sounds": [ { "name": "tetheredsouls:a_world_of_madness", "stream": true } ] } } Things I have tried: - multiple .ogg files. Short .ogg files (5 seconds, <100KB).  - default minecraft sounds imported from import net.minecraft.sounds.SoundEvents; These work given my code. No idea why these are different.  - playSound() method, as well as several others in past iterations that did not work   I would be forever grateful if somebody could point me in the right direction. I've looked at several mod github repositories and found extremely similar code to what I'm doing. I've also found several threads in this forum that did not solve my issue. I just cannot figure out what I'm doing differently, and why I'm able to queue sounds manually with playsound but the code won't play it (despite confirming the code is being run with the debug statements.)
