Network Packet INSTANCE returns null

so I've been following this tutorial to get a projectile to shoot at a keypress, and in the video it works fine, however I run into the issue where it says that INSTANCE returns null. I even copy/pasted over the code to make sure I hadn't made a mistake, and yet the issue still persist, within the lines:

public static <MSG> void sendToServer(MSG message) {

INSTANCE.sendToServer(message); }

and subsequently

ModMessages.sendToServer(new MagicC2SPacket());

My code is the exact same as the tutorial video, so I'm unsure as to why the game crashes and returns a null value. Is there a new way as of 1.19.2?

I'm fairly sure no version of forge (or java) has supported uninitialsed data. 🙂

Since you like videos: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=nullpointerexception+in+java

Boilerplate:

If you don't post your logs/debug.log we can't help you. For curseforge you need to enable the forge debug.log in its minecraft settings. You should also post your crash report if you have one.

If there is no error in the log file and you don't have a crash report then post the launcher_log.txt from the minecraft folder. Again for curseforge this will be in your curseforge/minecraft/Install

Large files should be posted to a file sharing site like https://gist.github.com  You should also read the support forum sticky post.
