I am new to forge modding, and I just started to make a mod. Now i made a block, but it beaks instantly and doesn't drop anything. Why? I set it to Material.iron so you have to use a iron pick to mine it.

You didn't set the block's hardness.  Just because it's made of iron doesn't mean it will take a certain number of swings or a certain tool level.

To enforce the iron pick you need to also set its harvest level.

block.setHardness(5.0F);

MinecraftForge.setBlockHarvestLevel(block, "tool", level);

You need to set the hardness of the block with (yourBlock).setHardness(float hardness).

To make it drop something you override this method: public int idDropped(int par1, Random par2Random, int par3).

To enforce the iron pick you need to also set its harvest level.

MinecraftForge.setBlockHarvestLevel(block, "tool", level);

And what string is needed? "ironTool" OR "Material.iron" or"EnumToolMaterial.iron" And I guess level needs a float. But would you kindly provide an example? I have oly worked with modloader before.

In the class where you register your blocks, add

MinecraftForge.setBlockHarvestLevel(par1, "par2", par3

And replace par1 with your block, replace par2 with pickaxe, axe or shovel, and replace par3 with the harvest level, look in EnmuToolMaterial to find the harvest level for the tools

Don't PM me with questions. They will be ignored! Make a thread on the appropriate board for support.

"tool" is the string for the tool name.  Vanilla uses "shovel" "pickaxe" and "axe."  Swords are handled by the web and leaf blocks respectively.

However this string can also be any other custom tool, though there are additional registrations that have to be handled regarding the tool (and is not something I've messed with).
