Currently how I have it implemented, the recipe doesn't care where you put the ingredients. However, I want it to care, similar to how Crafting Table recipes are formatted. Is there any examples of this that I could look at or similar documentation? Let me know if I should provide any more information!

Boilerplate:

If you don't post your logs/debug.log we can't help you. For curseforge you need to enable the forge debug.log in its minecraft settings. You should also post your crash report if you have one.

If there is no error in the log file and you don't have a crash report then post the launcher_log.txt from the minecraft folder. Again for curseforge this will be in your curseforge/minecraft/Install

Large files should be posted to a file sharing site like https://gist.github.com  You should also read the support forum sticky post.

I think OP is referring to a custom Recipe Type implementation, not a custom recipe for an Item. In that case you can see/extend the ShapedRecipe class to check which logic you need to apply in your own class

Don't blame me if i always ask for your help. I just want to learn to be better :)

On that same wiki: https://forge.gemwire.uk/wiki/Custom_Recipes

Here are all the references to RecipeSerializer on github. Not all will be forge (since it is a minecraft class) or up-to-date.

Maybe you can find something similar to what you are trying to do.
