Troubleshooted for about an hour, after updating my java to most recent, as well as readjusting my JDK something went wrong. Not sure what I'm missing.

Main Class

package com.christianbutnot.royalcrowns;

import com.christianbutnot.royalcrowns.init.BlockInit;
import com.christianbutnot.royalcrowns.init.ItemInit;
import com.christianbutnot.royalcrowns.init.OreGenInit;
import com.christianbutnot.royalcrowns.init.OreGenPlacement;

import net.minecraftforge.common.MinecraftForge;
import net.minecraftforge.eventbus.api.IEventBus;
import net.minecraftforge.fml.common.Mod;
import net.minecraftforge.fml.javafmlmod.FMLJavaModLoadingContext;

// The value here should match an entry in the META-INF/mods.toml file
@Mod(RoyalCrowns.MODID)
public class RoyalCrowns
{
    // Define mod id in a common place for everything to reference
    public static final String MODID = "royalcrowns";

    public RoyalCrowns(){
    	IEventBus bus = FMLJavaModLoadingContext.get().getModEventBus();

        ItemInit.ITEMS.register(bus);
        BlockInit.BLOCKS.register(bus);

        OreGenInit.register(bus);
        OreGenPlacement.register(bus);
        MinecraftForge.EVENT_BUS.register(this);
    }
}

In your build.gradle file your versions are not identical. The version must match the Specification-Version

Either I misunderstood and messed it up further, or this didn't solve it.

In build.gradle I changed the Specification-Version under manifest to 1.0.0, and changed the version at top to 1.0.0, which did not fix the issue. Same crash occurs.

install java 17 if you didn't already (go to adoptium.net). change java version in your project properties to 17. change java version in run configuration to java 17.

in runClient configuration, after you set java ver to 17, there is a module box - it should say modid.main.

run again.

Okay. I had updated all of my java versions and uninstalled older ones (had 8 different jdk/jres). Guessing I needed to keep that one then. Thank you!
