What do you mean return a damaged item, the function:

public static int getItemBurnTime

returns an integer.

Is an Item id EX: 1:1 or 1/1 or 1 1 with the first one being ID and the second one being DAMAGE

I should ask mention that I should have wrote not how do I return a damage value for the question, but how do I return a damaged item ID

I know what you mean by "a damaged item" that is not causing my inability to help you.

My inability to help you stems from "return a" when the function you are working with does not return an item.  Of any kind.

 

In any case, damaging an item:

 

par0ItemStack.setItemDamage(value)

 

If you want to change the item ID, you're going to need to make a new ItemStack(item)

So basically, since all I need is for my fuel burning return an int of how long it burns for, I would need to make a method to return an integer based on an ItemStack? How would I check an itemstack? I've tried something like

if par0ItemStack = new ItemStack par0ItemStack(Items.materialOne, 1, 1){return 0;}

but no luck

itemMaterial doesn't exist, unless you made a new class. Did you mean EnumToolMaterial? If so, that doesn't store a damage value, though it does have 'maxUses'. Your 'Items.materialOne' is just another Item, by the looks of it. No different than using 'energizedDust' as far as your furnace is concerned.

 

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Do you want to damage the fuel itemstack? Why? You are already returning a burn time, just consume the item and let the furnace burn. You can make it so the furnace doesn't use power if there is no item inside to smelt if that's what you want.

 

If you really want to have 'damaged' fuel stacks, like a half-used battery, you could return a damaged itemstack from the 'getStackInSlot' and 'getStackInSlotOnClosing' methods, but keep in mind damageable items cannot be stacked.

No, in a commit I havent pushed yet, I have a metadata based Item called materialOne that has 3 subtypes, 0, 1, 2. I want only subtype 1 to be fuel.

There are methods in ItemStack to compare two instances of ItemStack.

what re the method names? I'm using latest forge, so the version of mcp that comes with that.

SOLVED! I just use a different Item for my fuels.
