How do you get a projectile to show a texture?

I'm adding a function to a sword i'm adding to my mod (It's the Master Sword from the Legend of Zelda) where, if you have full health, you can shoot a projectile out of the sword. I've made the projectile, but I haven't been able to figure out how to texture it. (If you would like to see my code, you can gladly ask for it, but i'm fairly sure you won't need to. I just need to know what method to call)

If you have an item (even if its never available any other way) it's easy to use that item as the projectile (as I assume you're using the snowball entity).

You guessed correctly, I used the snowball entity as base code, but I want the projectile to have a different texture to the item, like how the arrow projectile isn't an arrow texture, but a 3d model (I don't want a model, I just want a different texture)

The snowball projectile takes an item Icon as its texture.

I was able to figure out how just by looking at how Vanilla created its snowballs.  Hint: ender pearls also use the snowball projectile.
