Posted October 22, 201312 yr Currently I'm trying to find a hook or function that allows me to add a few conditional statements in the onLivingUpdate ticks. I created the function, but I am sure that I have no idea where to put it to get it read by the client. Right now its in my base mod. There is probably a better way to do this than the way I am, but I'm not sure of how to do it. Any information would be awesome! Thanks! http://i43.tinypic.com/95v5n9.png[/img]
October 22, 201312 yr you cna use TickHandler on type of Player and it will be called everytime a player updates how to debug 101:http://www.minecraftforge.net/wiki/Debug_101 -hydroflame, author of the forge revolution-
October 22, 201312 yr Author Okay so I'm having a brain fart. How do I get the player data into the tick function? @Override public void tickStart(EnumSet<TickType> type, Object... tickData) { activeInventoryItemCheck(); // This is throwing an error because I have the custom function args as EntityPlayer } http://i43.tinypic.com/95v5n9.png[/img]
October 22, 201312 yr EntityPlayer p = (EntityPlayer)tickData[0] magiiiiic (no this was not an obvious one btw, you real yhave to know this one:P) how to debug 101:http://www.minecraftforge.net/wiki/Debug_101 -hydroflame, author of the forge revolution-
October 22, 201312 yr Author Okay so I implemented ITickHandler from my base mod file and added the methods. Then I put a simple System.out.println("Tick Start") in the tickStart()method and "Tick End" in the tickEnd() method and nothing is showing up in the console. I am sure that I implemented ITickHandler in the wrong place. @Override public void tickStart(EnumSet<TickType> type, Object... tickData) { System.out.println("Tick Start"); } @Override public void tickEnd(EnumSet<TickType> type, Object... tickData) { System.out.println("Tick End"); } @Override public EnumSet<TickType> ticks() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub return null; } @Override public String getLabel() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub return null; } http://i43.tinypic.com/95v5n9.png[/img]
October 22, 201312 yr You'll need to do TickRegistry.registerTickHandler(...) on both sides. By the way, why not the LivingUpdateEvent ?
October 22, 201312 yr Author Which ever is the easiest way. Can you give me a small example? The tick handler seems a bit too complicated for me. I haven't been able to take my java programming class yet. I'm learning and getting to play me favorite game http://i43.tinypic.com/95v5n9.png[/img]
October 22, 201312 yr You'll need to do TickRegistry.registerTickHandler(...) on both sides. By the way, why not the LivingUpdateEvent ? *facepalm* ahaha cuz im dumb and rusty so i dont remember that this event existsXD how to debug 101:http://www.minecraftforge.net/wiki/Debug_101 -hydroflame, author of the forge revolution-
October 22, 201312 yr Author So how would I call LivingUpdateEvent? I keep getting errors. http://i43.tinypic.com/95v5n9.png[/img]
October 22, 201312 yr Hum...I am afraid using events is a bit harder than TickHandler. Anyway, here is a fast how-to: MinecraftForge.EVENT_BUS.register(new EventHandler()); //Where EventHandler is a class which you make and contain methods such as: @ForgeSubscribe//Forge annotation, don't forget it public void onMobDeath(LivingDeathEvent event){//LivingDeathEvent is an Event class made by Forge //note: method name has no influence if(event.entityLiving instanceof EntityPlayer){//you can use the variables in event to make special case //do whatever you want } }
October 22, 201312 yr Author I just tried to add this to see if it was working and the chat never said anything. I'm guessing I'm trying to take this too far out of context from your example. @ForgeSubscribe public void onPlayerUpdate(LivingUpdateEvent event){ if(event.entityLiving instanceof EntityPlayer){ EntityPlayer player = (EntityPlayer) event.entityLiving; player.addChatMessage("Updated"); } } http://i43.tinypic.com/95v5n9.png[/img]
October 22, 201312 yr Author Fixed it! Thanks! I mistyped the event register in my base mod. http://i43.tinypic.com/95v5n9.png[/img]
