Not total noob, got Fossil and Dinos mod to run with forge ;^)

Trying to do a Pixelmon mod.  Pretty basic, 1.64 Minecraft with 1.6.4 forge.

Tried almost all version of 1.6.4 Forge but it wont stick.  By stick I mean I open the 1.6.4 MC .jar file in WinRAR.  I also open the 1.6.4 Forge file.

Delete Meta Inf in 1.6.4 MC jar then copy all the Forge files over to MC 1.64. jar.

Run MC 1.64 but no Forge installs.  One clue is that when I go BACK to the 1.64 version jar file I copied the forge files to they are no longer in there anymore.

Once I even closed and reopened the 1.64 version MC file before launching MC to make sure the Forge 1.64 files were in there - they were.  But running MC 1.64 somehow seems to reinstall base 1.64 and removes the Forge files (?).

Sure Im missing something obvious.  Any insight appreciated.

You dont edit the MC jar, at all in 1.6+

Use the installer provided in the downloads page.

I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated.
