Biome Registration Event?

I'm trying to listen for other mods registering biomes so that my mod can set up mob spawns that are appropriate for the registered biome.

 

It appears that this would be the BiomeEvent.CreateDecorator event, but when I listen for that, it never occurs.

 

Widening the net to all BiomeEvents, I only see GetWaterColor and GetGrassColor (which, of course, fire all the time).

Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable.  If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME.  Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice.

Could you look for the temperatures and biome heights of the biomes and use that to determine if your mob should spawn there?

 

Yes....but in order to add a spawn registration I need to hear that the biome exists:

 EntityRegistry.addSpawn(EntityNetherWisp.class, 1, 1, 1, EnumCreatureType.ambient, {biomes go here});

Dug into Mystcraft awaiting a reply.  Apparently XCW just waits until PostInit then loops through the entire BiomeList for non-null entries.

 

Copied and utilized.

 

Seems odd that Biomes don't fire off a registration event.

 

There is this in the BiomeDictionary:

    {
        for(int i = 0; i < BIOME_LIST_SIZE; i++)
        {
            BiomeGenBase biome = BiomeGenBase.biomeList[i];
            if (biome.theBiomeDecorator instanceof DeferredBiomeDecorator)

                DeferredBiomeDecorator decorator = (DeferredBiomeDecorator) biome.theBiomeDecorator;
                decorator.fireCreateEventAndReplace();
            }
            if(biome != null)
            {
                checkRegistration(biome);
            }
        }
    }

 

But it appears to be unused and would cause a crash if called (+1 cookie if you can figure out why).

BiomeEvent.CreateDecorator is called on the Terrain_Gen_Bus, each time

DeferredBiomeDecorator#decorate(World, Random, int, int) is called.

 

That won't work.  That's only for deferred decorated biomes (ie. almost none of them: not vanilla and not biomes o' plenty) and is called when a chunk is decorated not when the biome itself is registered.

All biome decorators are deferred except for the End.

Unless you override BiomeGenBase#getModdedBiomeDecorator(BiomeGenBase), or set another BiomeDecorator in your constructor, any custom biome decorator is deferred too.

 

And BiomeDictionary.registerAllBiomesAndGenerateEvents() is called by ForgeDummyContainer.

 

You probably failed to register to the terrain gen bus.

Pretty sure registerAllBiomesAndGenerateEvents isn't called at all.  When it hits a null biome it WILL crash: it checks biome.theBiomeDecorator before it checks to see if biome is null.

 

Either way, I have a workaround.
