How can I learn about Forge modding... and armor?

The tutorials on the wiki don't help, they are all copy and paste. Are there any good, and detailed resources available for me to look at? I'm looking forward to creating my own mod, but I cant even progress if I have no grasp of how forge works. I'm also at a standstill with creating my set of Armor, I've looked through the minecraft source files, and have not found one class for any of the armors. The only location I can find them clearly listed is in the Item class. Though they are just where the objects are first instantiated, so it does not help me much. I cannot view the source files in eclipse due to the headache it would cause by switching workspaces(Since I'm working with ForgeGradle). I've accomplished the task of creating the item, and allowing the user to equip it with the renderIndex of cloth, and armorType of chestplate. I want to figure out how to add my own look to the armor, it's a cloak, so that it doesn't look like a leather chestplate. Any helpful post will be appreciated.

Vswe is one of the few whom has made tutorials which aren't copy paste.

You can check it out here: www.youtube.com/user/VsweGoesMinecraft/videos?flow=grid&view=50&shelf_id=3

It doesn't deal with armor but its great stuff for learning forge and GUI stuffs :)

Also for finding tutorials you may find my site useful: http://mazetar.com/mctuts/searchform.php

(Self promoting much? :P )

If you guys dont get it.. then well ya.. try harder...

Haha, how else will you help others add your site to their collection of resources :P? I will check them out, and will get back with results. I hope that the tutorials will easily transfer over to ForgeGradle (I want to begin using this format so I don't have to re-adjust later). I have tried many times to make mods, but it has never succeeded because I don't understand anything about the forge API and how it is implemented, and used in modding minecraft.

Thanks for the resources :P

Then VSWE is the place I would tell you to start :)

Also THIS site: http://greyminecraftcoder.blogspot.no/p/list-of-topics.html

Is the BEST resource to understanding the source, it's a list of posts detailing the inner workings of minecraft as the author ventures into the code. I use it quite frequently as a reference when I work with unfamiliar (and familar stuff lol) concepts.

Also if you ever discover a tutorial or informative site which you'd think fits my list then send me a PM and I'll add it ;)

PS: From the blog mentioned above, check out:

I also messed around with armor recently.

Might help you out some.

Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable.  If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME.  Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice.

Exception: If you do not understand Java, I WILL NOT HELP YOU and your thread will get locked.

DO NOT PM ME WITH PROBLEMS. No help will be given.
