Forge doesn't add my mods to minecraft

Hey guys! I hope you can help me. I downloaded 1.7.2. Forge from the official page. Then I opened the jar file, installed forge, and got the massage: it was successful. Then I started (1.7.2.)minecraft with forge profile and then I closed it. I downloaded toomanyitems mod from 6minecraft, just to try if my forge works. I dragged and dropped my jar file to the folder: .minecraft\mods. I ran minecraft and the mod wasn't added to minecraft. (It wasn't even in the mods menu.) I started a new world, and the toomanyitems wasn't in my inventory. I didn't get any crash. I got windows 7, and my video card should be good enough.

Can I use for instance a 1.6.4. mod with 1.7.2 forge/1.7.2. minecraft?

There's a reason mods say "for Minecraft 1.6.4."  It's because they're for 1.6.4.  It still boggles my mind how many people still don't understand this.

Generally speaking the last number is agnostic (a 1.6.2 mod runs on 1.6.4 and vice versa) with a few exceptions (1.6.4 specifically changed how structures were stored, so any mod that used structures had to update to work).  That's it though, for cross-version compatibility.

Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable.  If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME.  Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice.

Exception: If you do not understand Java, I WILL NOT HELP YOU and your thread will get locked.

DO NOT PM ME WITH PROBLEMS. No help will be given.
