I'm trying to help my friend start a custom mod pack (Version 1.6.4) we built. Every time, something goes wrong.

If we start minecraft using -Xmx1024M as an argument, minecraft starts just fine, but trying to start up a world causes it to immediately say Shutting down internal server, then the game crashes.

If we use the -XX:MaxPermSize as an argument, the game throws a "Java has run out of memory" screen, regardless of how much ram is given. (On my end, I was able to run with as little as 1Gb)

This problem is local only to him, as I run the exact same mod pack with it just fine (Although I have to use the -XX method and the -Xmx method causes a similar problem.)

We have tried everything possible, and nothing helps. What can we do?

My friend could not get the forge error log, but I can have him get it if a solution can't be obtained with out it.

2014-04-09 21:25:51 [iNFO] [sTDOUT] Memory: 451712 bytes (0 MB) / 259522560 bytes (247 MB) up to 259522560 bytes (247 MB)

You ran out of memory, 247MB wont cut it for modded minecraft. Try a gig.

I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated.

We have bumped the ram up to 1548 MB, and now during the mojang screen, a popup appears saying something along the lines of "could not create JMV". He says the forge log has not updated. Any other solutions?

Also, please respond ASAP.

If you want to run anything over 1gb you need 64bit java AND enough memory on your pc/server.

Read the EAQ before posting! OR ELSE!

This isn't building better software, its trying to grab a place in the commit list of a highly visible github project.

he says he does have java 64 bit, and he has 4 GB of ram available on his computer. I'll have him try lowering the number later though, just in case.
