Why do you want to use protected?  The whole point of protected is to prevent exactly what you're doing in your main mod. I reckon you probably actually want something else.

Yes, but modding will be very hard until you learn Java.

 

I suggest - find a good book on Java in your native language.  It will be much more fun if you practice basic Java first.
