I have an issue dealing with the backup feature when a mod is removed from the server. My map is roughly 20gb and when I remove a mod it goes through its backup cycle but this causes 2 issues:

 

1) Forge assumes after a certain amount of time the backup failed and starts a new backup leaving a partially complete roughly 7gb backup file.

 

2) I see no option on disabling this feature in the config files

 

How would I go about disabling it because this makes it impossible to start my server up and it wastes huge amounts of space by filling the HDD with partially completed backup files until the server is force closed.

Please post the logs, there is nothing in our code that would cause a timeout and 1/2 full backups.

It may b some form of server hang detector on your server end.

However, you can easily bypass the uber backup by making a backup yourself, killing the region folder letting forge do it's thing, and restoring the regon folder.

But we do not have anything to disable this feature as, like I said, there shouldn't be issue. Something else is killing the backup.

There is nothing special going on in the log, it says that the backup has been confirmed then lists the missing items from the mods and does it thing. 5-10 minutes later it shows the same message again and the backup cancels and starts again.

Then you have something on your end that is causing it to loop, as our code will throw an error if a error happens and prevent things from loading.

Again you can bypass this issue by doing as I said above.

What about adding a config option to disable the backup feature in a future update. Why force people with large worlds to waste huge amounts of space by making it impossible to avoid the backup process.

Possibly, however, this is not a issue as it SHOULD only create ONE backup unless, like I suspect, you are a external mod/script/whatever that is breaking it.

It is an issue because large worlds being backed up no matter the amount of times is an issue. And how do you define external mods, or scripts?

Again, you have failed to provide logs.

You have an external script possibly from you server host or what have you that from all evidence is detecting a 'hang' on the server and trying to correct it.

Follow my directions and you wont have issues.

As it is not our code that is causing the excessive amounts of backups.

I just backed up a 50GB world without issue it took ages, but it worked fine.

What if we don't have tons of storage like you and the backups are taking up too much space?

Please don't necro old threads.

The backup process is there for a reason and we don't add an option to disable it because we have seen people shoot themselves in the foot before.
