Hello, I have been trying to start a the forge minecraft server for a while and have been troubled connecting to my own server. Here is the Log Chat of the server

The part that was a Bug was the part that I highlight. If anyone could help me, I would appreciate it.

I am seeing the same error.  I am new to minecraft forge - I keep a Minecraft Server running for my son and his friends - they asked me to figure out if I could add mods to the server, so I started fiddling with it.  Managed to get forge 1.7.10 installer and get it working, sort of, with my 1.7.10 server.  When I run forge, it opens the MCServer jar file ok, and all looks fine till someone tries to login to my server.  Below is the Log/chat text -- with some repetitive lines removed.

So, I'm not sure what to try.  I see several other folks have experienced the same error message -- it only stops repeating when the user attempting to login gives up. 

 

Here is the string I'm using to start up the server, perhaps I've accidentally done something wrong here?

 

C:\myd\1_7_10_MMSMOD\JDK64_7_60\bin\java.exe -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar forge-1.7.10-10.13.0.1180-universal.jar

OK.  It is working now.  My son was able to login to my minecraft server+forge.  What we tried was having my son install forge on his computer as well.  When he ran minecraft, he used his forge profile. 

 

No more Netty errors.

 

Is it safe to assume that there is something subtly different about the Netty protocol used by Minecraft Client vs Forge Client? 

 

Or has it always been a requirement that clients wishing to login to a server running forge, should be running forge themselves?

Yes, it is necessary to have Forge installed on your client when connecting to a Forge-modded server (preferably the same version as the server).

On the other hand, you can connect to a vanilla server with a Forge-modded client.

The same goes for mods. You need the mods the server has on your client, but you can have more mods on your client than the server has (they simply aren't working in Multiplayer).

 

Why? The Server does all the work. If the client does not know exactly what the server does / can do, then there will simply be discrepancies (for example the server includes a new hostile entity, client doesn't know because the mod isn't installed, Player gets killed by it and doesn't know why, because he couldn't see it).

This thread makes me sad because people just post copy-paste-ready code when it's obvious that the OP has little to no programming experience. This is not how learning works.

Yes, having Forge on the client is required to connect to a Forge server.

It's something we are working on. But for the most part as mods add new content this will be a requirement.

 

I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated.
