I recently had a problem running all versions of Forge on my windows 8 laptop. I would get an error and the game would not load with the Forge profile. with further searching, I realized Microsoft designed Minecraft to run even without Java on windows 8. The new launcher does not load with Java, and thus the mods will not work. You have to download the old launcher to install Forge.

Umm nothing in this post is accurate in any way shape or form...

i used 1.6.4 and 1.8 as well. both didnt work. however, they work with the old launcher.

 

The 'old launcher' and the 'new launcher' ARE THE EXACT SAME THING.

The 'new launcher' is just a native wrapper around the old one to automate installing java for you.

The answer is in the EAQs either use 1.7.10+ or use the fix.

If you claim to have errors on 1.7.10+ POST THE LOG FILES so we can see them.
