Our school uses MinecraftEDU. Can I use Forge to write mods?

Is there a way to have Forge use MinecraftEDU instead of the regular version of Minecraft?

    MinecraftEdu is based off of Forge.

    You'll have to talk to them for the specifics of working with their version.

    But Most things that work in Forge should work on Edu because as I said, Edu is based on Forge.

    I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated.
