I'm playing a lan world with my brother and we can play 1.7.10 with mods and any vanilla version but when using 1.8 with forge 1.8-11.14.4.1563 we get a message when trying to connect saying "failed to connect to the server - failed to login: the authentication servers are currently down for maintenance"

Anyone know what could be causing this? :/

Although I don't know exactly what's going on, I can guarantee that it's not servers being down for maintenance as I'm not even connected to the internet at the time when trying to set up the lan game and other versions work perfectly fine and this has happened ever since I've tried playing a lan game with mods using forge for 1.8 (for about 3 months now)

I just haven't been able to fix it myself hence why I posted here.

Yeah ONLY on a lan world and ONLY with forge using mods on 1.8, every other version including 1.7.10 with mods and any vanilla is completely fine. I've even tried fresh installs multiple times

Yeah it does happen only with forge and it can't be the mods because I've tried getting it to work with no mods in the mods folder or something simple like just optifine. I'll make the bug report, thanks :)

Seemed simple to me but I don't know much about it, I just play the game. Although it's not really relevant, thanks for the clarity.

Vanilla's default behavior is to validate auth information on any network server.

        logger.info("Starting integrated minecraft server version 1.8");
        this.setOnlineMode(true);

So, vanilla enforces the need for the auth servers to be up and for you to be able to connect to them in vanilla LAN connections.

There isn't a way to get around this using LAN.

What you want to do is start a dedicated server and you can control it there.

Or, you know, just give the server access to the internet and let it auth you correctly -.-

Either way this is NOT a Forge issue.

I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated.

Okay thanks, I'll remove the post on github and see what I can do.

Having a piece of crap mac, for some reason having a lan connection blocks internet access so I'll have to find a way around that.

I gave the other person joining an internet connection.

We got this in the log [03:22:54] [user Authenticator #1/WARN]: Authentication servers are down but will let them in anyway!

It worked though, thanks! didn't think it would be something so simple
