It seems that there are 3 problems in the current download that make the setup fail.

1. install.cmd still tries to use MCP's python.

2. Automatically downloading and extracting MCP doesn't work when mcp_dir is set to the parent directory, because it expects that the folder doesn't exist. Needs to be changed manually. (Not sure if it's supposed to be like that.)

3. Eclipse folder does not get replaced, code seems to be commented out..?

I hope I could be of some help.

To anyone freshly downloading MCP and forge, and getting 6000+ errors in eclipse: Close eclipse, delete mcp/eclipse, replace it with mcp/forge/fml/eclipse. (Thanks luacs1998)

Adding to EAQ.

(can't believe it slipped my mind to do so, irc too distracting?)

When I try to run forge's install.cmd without mcp it states:

The system cannot find the path specified.
Press any key to continue . . .

Yes, that would be fixed by changing it to use the python binary which FML now includes. Edit the second line in the file to fml\python\python_fml install.py. Don't forget to change mcp_dir in the install.py file to "mcp" or something, or "../mcp" if you want it in the parent directory, it will create a folder with that name.

edit: Or do it like usual, download mcp and put forge in, then you only need to replace the eclipse folder.

Which is why auto mcp downloading is retarded, I personally prefer to install it myself.

I wouldn't say that, it works great actually. In the future I'll only have to download forge :)

Hi there,

I recently tried setting up Forge and MCP using both the manual method (grabbing all the jars and such by hand) and the method described by the wiki, which was to just add Forge into MCP, and run install.cmd. Both times resolved in the error you mentioned above. I tried your fix, both by pointing eclipse to using the folder you specified, and by copy and pasting that folder into MCP's root folder, and then pointing eclipse to that.

Both times, I now resolve in 8 errors. These all reference the external libraries:

guava-12.0.1.jar

asm-all-4.0.jar

argo-2.25.jar

minecraft.jar

lwjgl.jar

jinput.jar

Whats weird is all of these can be found in my "jars" folder in MCP. As well as that, they have full drop downs in the Minecraft project folder. Any ideas on what could help?

Riizu, you don't actually have to do that much. To make sure you won't have any problems I suggest setting it up from the beginning again.

- Get MCP, extract it wherever you want. (I'll call the folder "mcp" here.)

- Get forge, extract the folder to mcp/forge.

- Run mcp/forge/install.cmd.

- Delete the folder mcp/eclipse.

- Copy the folder mcp/forge/fml/eclipse to mcp/eclipse.

- Start up eclipse.

- Start modding.

- ? ? ? ?

- Profit!

Forge will download Minecraft and all other needed files automatically.

I've reverted the recomended back to 411 which should fix almost all of these.

Interesting that the people I asked to test it didn't give me any errors, oh well.

Anyways, MCP downloading is there because people don't know how to do things properly.

If you are to dense to figure it out you can STILL use it in the EXACT same manor as you always have, and it will automatically detect that MCP is in the folder above it.

I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated.

Well apparently that caused even more problems than there should be.

At least I can still use the usual method

Agree with him.

There is a way to fix it though (ie: don't extract eclipse from mcp zip, just copy forge's one there)

^^ That's for you Lex/cpw.

It cleans up a lot of issue that people have especially the people who like to hook there mods into auto building systems.

Anyways all this shit is fixed, as its all FML issues.

Just need to wait till the next time we sync things with FML, Which will have a lot more changes then just the workspace and downloads.

Shit break while they are being re-written, deal with it.

Nothing that has happened has been a show stopper, no more then 30 seconds for you, the modder, to work around on your end.

It also  shows when you have no internet connexion I believe...

Tried the usual manual installation procedure and still get this. (MCodingPack 7.23 and forge folder (6.4.1.435) inside)

Copying the eclipse folder (from forge to main folder) doesn't help. Or naming the main folder "mcp" for that matter.

When trying to run python without "install.cmd" , got a "python_fml isn't a valid win32 application". Could it be a bad version of python or something ?

I am on Vista(x86)SP2. My latest manual installation (forge 6.4.1.410) worked, so I'll stick with that for the moment.

edit: Forge"Readme" file says something about fernflower decompiler at http://goo.gl/PnJHp (address which doesn't work :/ ) ?

edit: Fix work for forge 6.4.1.430.

    • Ah, it appears I spoke too soon, I still need a little help here. I now have the forceloading working reliably.  However, I've realized it's not always the first tick that loads the entity.  I've seen it take anywhere from 2-20ish to actually go through, in which time my debugging has revealed that the chunk is loaded, but during which time calling  serverLevelIn.getEntity(uuidIn) returns a null result.  I suspect this has to do with queuing and how entities are loaded into the game.  While not optimal, it's acceptable, and I don't think there's a whole ton I can do to avoid it. However, my concern is that occasionally teleporting an entity in this manner causes a lag spike.  It's not every time and gives the appearance of being correlated with when other chunks are loading in.  It's also not typically a long spike, but can last a second or two, which is less than ideal.  The gist of how I'm summoning is here (although I've omitted some parts that weren't relevant.  The lag occurs before the actual summon so I'm pretty confident it's the loading, and not the actual summon call). ChunkPos chunkPos = new ChunkPos(entityPosIn); if (serverLevelIn.areEntitiesLoaded(chunkPos.toLong())) { boolean isSummoned = // The method I'm using for actual summoning is called here. Apart from a few checks, the bulk of it is shown later on. if (isSummoned) { // Code that runs here just notifies the player of the summon, clears it from the queue, and removes the forceload } } else { // I continue forcing the chunk until the summon succeeds, to make sure it isn't inadvertently cleared ForgeChunkManager.forceChunk(serverLevelIn, MODID, summonPosIn, chunkPos.x, chunkPos.z, true, true); } The summon code itself uses serverLevelIn.getEntity(uuidIn) to retrieve the entity, and moves it as such.  It is then moved thusly: if (entity.isAlive()) { entity.moveTo(posIn.getX(), posIn.getY(), posIn.getZ()); serverLevelIn.playSound(null, entity, SoundEvents.ENDERMAN_TELEPORT, SoundSource.NEUTRAL, 1.0F, 1.0F); return true; } I originally was calling .getEntity() more frequently and didn't have the check for whether or not entities were loaded in place to prevent unnecessary code calls, but even with those safety measures in place, the lag still persists.  Could this just be an issue with 1.18's lack of optimization in certain areas?  Is there anything I can do to mitigate it?  Is there a performance boosting mod I could recommend alongside my own to reduce the chunk loading lag? At the end of the day, it does work, and I'm putting measures in place to prevent players from abusing the system to cause lag (i.e. each player can only have one queued summon at a time-- trying to summon another replaces the first call).  It's also not an unacceptable level of lag, IMO, given the infrequency of such calls, and the fact that I'm providing the option to toggle off the feature if server admins don't want it used.  However, no amount of lag is ideal, so if possible I'd love to find a more elegant solution-- or at least a mod recommendation to help improve it. Thanks!
