Error Downloading Forge - Every Version

I have tried installing forge on 1.8.9 and 1.10.2 but no version has worked. I have done ever step correctly (I think) and have tried deleting the .minecraft folder and restarting but nothing has worked. Every time I go to open and install forge, I get the same message:

I am beginning to get annoyed and would really appreciate it if some one could reply and give me some help. Sorry if I am posting this on the wrong topic or whatever, I didn't really pay attention to that. Thanks - ZSwizzle

The installer creates a log file for a reason.

MOST LIKELY {as this is just a guess because you haven't provided the log file} is you've got something blocking your internet connection to our servers.

Try disabling your firewall, or going to maven central and manually installing those files.

You could also try running the installer with the command line argument: -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true

Thank you for your suggestions. I have tried to go to my windows firewall to allow this to work but I didn't see anything that could be changed to allow this to work. Also, I don't know how to run the installer with the command line argument: -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true

If you can reply again with some extra pointers, that would be great. I am running Windows 10 btw. Sorry to bother you

MOST LIKELY {as this is just a guess because you haven't provided the log file}

I opened up the forge installer, clicked on the button with 3 dots, clicked on the search bar, then pressed space and entered the line -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true The forge launcher then said:

There is no minecraft directory set up. Either choose an alternative, or run the minecraft launcher to create one.

Then I clicked "OK". Then it said:

There is no minecraft installation at this location!

I'm not sure what any of that means and I don't even know if i put the line -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true in the right location. Sorry for wasting your time but I would like it if you could reply again. Thanks

And no, a command line argument is NOT your install directly -.- OBVIOUSLY That won't work.

One more chance to follow instructions before I lock the thread.

As stated, my signature tells you how to run a jar file with extra command line arguments.

And your log file OF RUNNING THE INSTALLER not of running vanilla minecraft.

Ok, sorry. I went to "run" and typed

C:\Users\Yvonne\Desktop\forge-1.10.2-12.18.1.2013-installer.jar -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true

and nothing happened.

Sorry. I hope you can help me one more time before you lock the thread.

The installer generates a log file with the same name in the same folder as itself.
