Greetings!

I am attempting to install Forge on my new ASUS computer, so I can have the mods I love, but every type of install I try is met with an error message that states that I need Java 6 - which is no longer offered by Java. How can I fix this?

You can still download Java 6 from the Java archives. But it shouldn't complain about you using a newer version of Java. Can you post the error log?

As soon as I click the installer file it says this:

This Application requires a Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0

The only option is to press the OK button, which opens the Java page.

What installer are you using? Just

installer

or

installer-win

? Also, for which Minecraft and Forge version?

I've tried Installer and Installer Win - and even Universal (yes, I read statements but I did this before I read that). Both have same result. I have Minecraft version 1.11 and am attempting to install the 1.11 version of Forge for it. It never even installs, I click it, and I get the Java message.

It's weird, as I don't get the message, and I only have Java 8 installed. Did you try updating your Java to the latest version?

This doesn't make any sense.

What exact version of Java do you have installed?

Open the start menu, type About Java or open a command prompt and type "java -version" and tell us what it says (the underlined text in the image below from either variant...or both if they somehow differ).

Ok, so I got some sleep and went back at it - I found a JRE for 6 on minecraft forums and the first time forge installed it said it missed some libraries. Second time, it said it grabbed one required library. Now it shows up as a version of mc in the edit profile area, but it won't run, keeps crashing.

I don't really think it's using Java 6, it just refused to install without it. It took a few tries but it finally installed after I got the Java 6 it wanted. So apparently it was my pre-existing mods (transferred in files from old computer) that was causing the crash - gonna have to get new versions of those mods I guess

Thank you for taking time to explain this guys. I had the same problem, but I installed java 6 just to install it, the removed and have no problem now. Thank you :)

Also, do you know if can purchase a Gameband for Minecraft from Amazon US from Canada using a cheap package forwarding and shipping service to Canada from USA? I really like the GameBands but unfortunately nothing is available in Canadian's online stores, not even Amazon CA.
