The title says it all. what is the use of markDirty()? In the tutorial I'm following, I have to use it when adding and removing a cracker, and I want to understand why.

Nice to meet you fellow mod developer, hope you're having a wonderful and challenging day!

It's used to save the data you're changing. In this example, you add or remove cracker, then, you call markDirty(), that means that changes will be written to NBT, so it updates the block in the game.
Not exactly sure, but I think it's something like that.

If you use eclipse, you can hover your mouse over markDirty() and it will explain what it is.

Apparently I'm addicted to these forums and can't help but read all the posts. So if I somehow help you, please click the "Like This" button, it helps.
