[1.11.2][SOLVED] Correct way to register item renders

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)
private static ItemTest itemTest;

	public static void init(RegistryEvent.Register<Item> event)
	{
		itemTest = new ItemTest("test", event);
	}

	public static void initRenders()
	{
		Minecraft.getMinecraft().getRenderItem().getItemModelMesher().register(itemTest, 0, new ModelResourceLocation(itemTest.getRegistryName(), "inventory"));
	}

Registering the model for ItemTest causes a NPE and I don't know why. Some ideas? Or better, is there a more elegant way to render items?

What the hell is this?

Also, do not use the ItemModelMesher, use the ModelLoader in preInit.
