I've recently been wanting to download forge for Minecraft, so I got the 1.8 version. I downloaded it, and it turned into a folder. However this folder only contained a .json file, and was otherwise empty. The forge works on my mac, but I cannot install any mods, since I don't have the mod folder inside of my .minecraft ---> Forge 1.8. I have downloaded many other versions as well, but the same thing occurs.

Please help me resolve this issue.

When you download the installer, do not extract it. It is a jar file, you need to run it for it to install Forge.

That's what I did, I didn't extract it. I double clicked it and it turned into a folder in my .versions

MacOS cannot run Jars by double-clicking as far as I know. Google how to run a Jar file on Mac.

I have another issue, in my -bash (terminal) my cd introcs/hello cannot be found as a file. Do you know how to solve this? @diesieben07

Well, does that folder exist? The error message suggests it does not.

Its really strange, It opens up this forge window which asks me where it should upload forge 1.8.9. But when I check it out, it only contains  .json. @diesieben07

This is EXACTLY what the installer is supposed to do. The Jar is not needed as it's in the normal version folder. Please search there are dozens of this question.

It's 2017 you NEVER need to edit the jar files anymore!

I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated.

And that is a problem because...?

That is not a problem, but the fact that the created folder only contains a .json file (even after I run Minecraft once) is the issue.
