Posted July 29, 20178 yr I'm just wondering, does Forge 1.12 require more RAM than 1.7.10? The reason I'm asking is because I am finding that forge (running 14.21.1.2424) is requiring me to give it 5GB of RAM to run about 100 mods (and their libraries). Giving it any less RAM won't even get me to the main menu of the game, it'll just hang at step 7/7. In comparison, 1.7.10 is happy with 2GB to run 100 mods. Is this because Forge hasn't been optimized yet, or is this just a reality we'll have to live with?
July 30, 20178 yr Not explicitly, Vanilla 1.8 changed some memory allocation around and requires more RAM but improves performance a reasonable amount
July 30, 20178 yr cpw (the guy who created FML aka Forge Mod Loader) made a great post about this on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/feedthebeast/comments/5jhuk9/modded_mc_and_memory_usage_a_history_with_a/
July 31, 20178 yr Author That is an insightful post! I happened to have found a solution to the RA problem: Asie's Foam Fix. Where it took 10GB of RAm to load up 200 mods in 1.12 before Foam Fix, it only requires 5GB of RAM to load the same mod list with foam fix included! I don't know what kind of magic Asie uses, but Forge should take a deep look into it!
August 1, 20178 yr We have, and it breaks a lot more than it fixes. 10GB however is rather stupid... How the hell are you using that much i'm running packs with 300+ mods on less than 6GB. I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated. Consider supporting the team on Patreon
August 1, 20178 yr Author Without foam fix, I have to give the game 10gb for the same mod list because if I don't, the game just hangs on step 7/7 forever and never loads into the main menu. giving it the extra ram allows it to get into the main menu. With foam fix, I can get by on 6gb ram.
