Diego Marvid Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 Hello, I was trying to run my forge modded server on my linux mint virtual machine but I came up with this error. I don't think that it's my java version because I can run a Vanilla server without a problem. I tried with previous versions of forge but the error kept appearing. When I upload Minecraft_Server.1.12.2.jar manually appears another error about some libraries that failed downloading (image 2). As well, when I try to run a pre-made server, it gives me an error as well (I have no problem running it on my windows pc). Image 3 Looking forward to an answer Quote
DaemonUmbra Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 The first two pictures, try these instructions(They are for Windows but pay attention to the arguments given to Java when running the installer): As for the third image, you need to use Java 8 to run Forge at this time. 1 Quote This is my Forum Signature, I am currently attempting to transform it into a small guide for fixing easier issues using spoiler blocks to keep things tidy. As the most common issue I feel I should put this outside the main bulk: The only official source for Forge is https://files.minecraftforge.net, and the only site I trust for getting mods is CurseForge. If you use any site other than these, please take a look at the StopModReposts project and install their browser extension, I would also advise running a virus scan. For players asking for assistance with Forge please expand the spoiler below and read the appropriate section(s) in its/their entirety. Now launch the pack through that profile and follow the "Mojang Launcher" instructions above. Posting your mod as a GitHub Repo: Spoiler When you have an issue with your mod the most helpful thing you can do when asking for help is to provide your code to those helping you. The most convenient way to do this is via GitHub or another source control hub. When setting up a GitHub Repo it might seem easy to just upload everything, however this method has the potential for mistakes that could lead to trouble later on, it is recommended to use a Git client or to get comfortable with the Git command line. The following instructions will use the Git Command Line and as such they assume you already have it installed and that you have created a repository. Open a command prompt (CMD, Powershell, Terminal, etc). Navigate to the folder you extracted Forge’s MDK to (the one that had all the licenses in). Run the following commands: git init git remote add origin [Your Repository's URL] In the case of GitHub it should look like: https://GitHub.com/[Your Username]/[Repo Name].git git fetch git checkout --track origin/master git stage * git commit -m "[Your commit message]" git push Navigate to GitHub and you should now see most of the files. note that it is intentional that some are not synced with GitHub and this is done with the (hidden) .gitignore file that Forge’s MDK has provided (hence the strictness on which folder git init is run from) Now you can share your GitHub link with those who you are asking for help. [Workaround line, please ignore]
Diego Marvid Posted July 22, 2018 Author Posted July 22, 2018 Thank you for your quick reply, I was reading previous posts about this topic before publishing it, I tried what diesieben07 said but I had the same error. And yes I verified and I have java 8 version. Quote
MoeBoy76 Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 The simplest fix for the hash failure is to download the 1.12.2 Vanilla jar from Mojang and rename it to minecraft_server.1.12.2.jar Quote
Diego Marvid Posted July 22, 2018 Author Posted July 22, 2018 (edited) That's what I did on Image 2 Edited July 22, 2018 by Diego Marvid Quote
DaemonUmbra Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 This is all I have on trustAnchors What I gave you before should fix the libraries not downloading. Also Mojang is pushing the 1.13 server now, so you'll need a direct link to get 1.12.2 now. DaemonUmbra Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 The server jar needs to be all lowercase and once again you need to use Java 8, not just have it installed, if you have any other versions of Java that your computer might be trying to use instead you need to use the full path to the Java binary rather than just “Java” 1 Quote This is my Forum Signature, I am currently attempting to transform it into a small guide for fixing easier issues using spoiler blocks to keep things tidy. Diego Marvid Posted July 22, 2018 Author Posted July 22, 2018 Why would java be the problem if i can run a vanilla java server without a problem? Quote
Diego Marvid Posted July 22, 2018 Author Posted July 22, 2018 17 minutes ago, diesieben07 said: Because Forge uses a lot of "black magic forkery" to make modding work. This stuff breaks on Java 9 and onwards. Forge for 1.13 will support Java 9 and newer. Fair enough, I re-installed java 8 and reboot my pc but same problem is happening (and yes the file is minecraft_server.1.12.2.jar without any uppercase) Quote

Diego Marvid Posted July 22, 2018 Author Posted July 22, 2018 Here is the log of the command forge.jar.log Quote
Diego Marvid Posted July 22, 2018 Author Posted July 22, 2018 Ok, I did these steps as they appeared in the link: sudo apt-get remove --purge openjdk* java-common default-jdk sudo apt-get autoremove --purge sudo update-alternatives --config java sudo apt-get install openjdk-8-jdk And it was much better, now I have just 1 error: Quote
Diego Marvid Posted July 22, 2018 Author Posted July 22, 2018 Sorry, here it is: PD: you can open it with notepad++ for the correct format forge.jar.log Quote
Diego Marvid Posted July 22, 2018 Author Posted July 22, 2018 Ok, it worked! I'm going to list the stepts I did for future users with the same problem: You have to be in the command line where you start, not in some folder, then: sudo apt-get remove --purge openjdk* java-common default-jdk sudo apt-get autoremove --purge sudo apt-get install openjdk-8-jdk sudo update-ca-certificates -f sudo /var/lib/dpkg/info/ca-certificates-java.postinst configure //Here you go to your minecraft server folder cd Minecraft/Server/ java -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -jar forge.jar --installServer Quote
