Forge jar won't open for server (Mac)

Hi, I am trying to set up a modded server and I am having trouble running the forge jar.  The name of the jar I am trying to run is: forge-1.12.2-14.23.5.2768-universal.jar

When I double click to try to run, a message pops up saying: The Java JAR file "forge-1.12.2-14.23.5.2768-universal.jar" could not be launched. Check Console for possible error messages

I also tried to run it using terminal with the java -jar command and it says: Error: Unable to access jarfile forge-1.12.2-14.23.5.2768-universal.jar

Are you sure that your server directory was the active/working directory when you typed the command?

As the most common issue I feel I should put this outside the main bulk:

The only official source for Forge is https://files.minecraftforge.net, and the only site I trust for getting mods is CurseForge.

If you use any site other than these, please take a look at the StopModReposts project and install their browser extension, I would also advise running a virus scan.

When asking support remember to include all relevant log files (logs are found in .minecraft/logs/), code if applicable and screenshots if possible.
