[SOLVED!] [1.12.2]Making an item using an OBJ model and blockstates JSON

Hi,

I've been spending over a week trying to find why my model doesn't work and I think it is related to my .json, .obj and .mtl files for the item.

I am using

``` public void registerItemRenderer(Item item, int meta, String id) {
        OBJLoader.INSTANCE.addDomain(Reference.MOD_ID);
        ModelLoader.setCustomModelResourceLocation(item, meta, new ModelResourceLocation(item.getRegistryName(), id));
    }```

to register my items and OBJ models.

I have the JSON in *assets/[MODID]/blockstates* and the OBJ and MTL files in *assets/[MODID]/models/item*.

What tutorial(s) did you follow when setting up your mod? Pretty much everything in it is completely broken.

Actually..I thought that how the java files were organised wasn't an issue.. but I did realise some errors with the assets if I did them differently.

Did I do something fatal in my sorting?

Just... everything. You’ve got tons of useless and unnecessary code, your packaging is pretty bad etc. You’re also calling OBJLoader#addDomain every time you register a model (I’m pretty sure it needs to be called before models are registered anyway). Please post your logs

Ok, so I put the

OBJLoader.INSTANCE.addDomain(Reference.MOD_ID);

in the  "preInit" event

 

Sorry I'm completely new to minecraft modding and can't seem to understand where the problems are..

No, it doesn’t exist anywhere because you’re using .obj not .json

Your repository is not set up correctly, the root directory of your repository must be the root directory of your project.

 

I have no idea how you are doing anything in the first place since your code doesn't even compile since you have multiple syntax errors, like defining root level classes in files that do not correspond to the file names, wrong package definitions, missing imports, missing fields, etc. Please fix all of that, it is literally impossible to compile and debug.

is this better? I followed HarryTalks tutorial and just added for the OBJLoader but my item still doesn't work.

 

But...by the way, everthing with the java classes work fine if the imports and calls are correctly done. The only thing that must be "standard", if you don't mind me saying, are the assets.

 

If you can help me solve my obj problem I will try anything and will be very greatfull.. thank you

Stop following his tutorial; his tutorial is terrible in that it has a lot of bad practices and unnecessary stuff, not mentioning all the outdated ways to implement certain features.

Try resorting to a good text-based tutorial instead; here is one for example: https://github.com/TheGreyGhost/MinecraftByExample

Cadiboo also has a good example mod that guides novice modders to use good practices.

 

In addition, your repo is still set up incorrectly; the root of your repo must be the root of your Forge MDK.

Your .obj model is broken, the uv coordinates must be within a [0-1] range, you have some outside(in this case the X is negative).

I'm really sorry but I don't understand what you mean by it being set up incorrectly..? the only difference I see sadly is the proxys and handlers not being in a sub-package?

Yes I am "trying without success" to use a .obj file ?.. Actually for the 3d model I was following this tutorial and it showed that the .json was placed in the blockstates folder and called the .obj in the models folder... do you think that is correct?

@V0idWa1k3r ok so..i went through the entire .obj file and fixed all negative "vt"s but the issue is still the same... any other idea?

But I specified:

"model": "pm:pokeball.obj"

Do I need another instruction to fix it?

I don’t think that you should had “.obj” at the end of the model path. Also I think that everything should just work if you’re correctly calling OBJLoader.addDomain

If i don't put the .obj wouldn't it get confused between pokeball.obj and pokeball.mtl..?

 

And I am calling it in my ClientProxy's preInit function..i also tried calling it in the Main's preInit instead but to no avail..
