Lets make this short and simple, I want to use Itemstack to keep track of what the player is holding when he hits a block, but If it is a block then How do I do it? Does Itemstack work the same for blocks or is there a different type that is used in the case of blocks?

they're the same. ItemStacks are for blocks and items.
