Is it even possible to have 2 directories for mods?

To be more specific, as the title says, can we have a folder for client only mods

then if were dealing with a server, have a separate folder for server side mods.

Is this possible?

Why would this be needed?

This is my Forum Signature, I am currently attempting to transform it into a small guide for fixing easier issues using spoiler blocks to keep things tidy.

As the most common issue I feel I should put this outside the main bulk:

The only official source for Forge is https://files.minecraftforge.net, and the only site I trust for getting mods is CurseForge.

If you use any site other than these, please take a look at the StopModReposts project and install their browser extension, I would also advise running a virus scan.

some mods are only needed server side, others are needed client side only. Simply being able to separate them if one desired would help for whatever their reasons may be. Like the reason i have that led to my inquiry. I am developing a modpack update, which has a public server with an existing world. Have come into situations where i may remove some mods from the pack, in turn gotta test for the public server.(making sure world can adept the changes, etc). The server is running with SpongeForge with plugins. These dont go to the client, being able to separate these in the server directory would make it easier to change forge only mods/files. I'm probably bad at organization. Wasn't suggesting this be added, the question was more on the side of "is this possible".

But hey, having the option to choose this layout isn't the worst idea/question i've seen in posts.

From the reply i think i can deduce the answer is no. So thanks anyway.

Forge should not detect or try to load Sponge Plugins, and Sponge should not detect or try to load Forge mods.

In the case of client-only and server-only mods, mods should be smart enough to self-disable on the wrong side.

They dont even need to self-disable. They just need to tell us what side they are for and we'll skip them as nessasary.

I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated.
