Can't Install, Can't Launch

Ok .. forum search fruitless.  Downloaded latest Forge (as of this typing).  Updated Java.  Run Installer, says no launcher profile.  Download Launcher.  Wont run.  no error log, nada. Went through list, to find Forge that matched my Minecraft (1.12.1)  No Launcher is available for that.  Attempted to install the servers, versions, between latest and 1.12.1  Nothing.  Cannot figure out how to run launcher. please help with step by step instructions.  cause all the instructions so far seem to be missing a step, or a launcher.

Forge installs itself as a version of Minecraft.

Make a new Profile/Installation and select Forge from the version dropdown.

(Note: For some reason Forge 1.12.2 gets booted to the bottom of the list.)

This is my Forum Signature, I am currently attempting to transform it into a small guide for fixing easier issues using spoiler blocks to keep things tidy.

 

As the most common issue I feel I should put this outside the main bulk:

The only official source for Forge is https://files.minecraftforge.net, and the only site I trust for getting mods is CurseForge.

If you use any site other than these, please take a look at the StopModReposts project and install their browser extension, I would also advise running a virus scan.

Ok - In what way does that happen? If i click my minecraft icon it simply runs, as normal. (this is my first attempt at installing mods for this game)  you say make a new profile/installation.  the program that does that is Not Here.  "Launcher" does not install.  And on the files list for 1.12.x there is no launcher?

The file you want to download from files.minecraftforge.net is the installer.

VANILLA MINECRAFT CLASSES ARE THE BEST RESOURCES WHEN MODDING

This is the launcher in question have you run the version of Minecraft you are trying to install forge for. If not you need to. Its a simple verification that you own the game, and it also allows forge to legally apply it's changes to the game.

Ive tried that, tried installing with Minecraft already up and running, running it after with the installer window open.  Everything keeps asking for a launcher.profile.  There is no means of creating one.  And fortop. the life of me i cannot figure out how to screenshot on my daughters lap

That's bedrock edition. I'm sorry forge is for Java edition. I don't believe there is a modding system out for bedrock(PC). But I could stand to be corrected.

Until Mojang or another person/group come out with a Modding API for it yes. Except there are addons for it but it doesn't add new content it just allows for it to be modified.
